Announcing the release of 'happindicator3' and my new blog.
November 23, 2014 - Michael LaCorte
With the release of my first Haskell library, happindicator3, I’ve decided it’s time to start a blog.
I’ve been working on a project in Haskell which needs the ability to create a system tray icon on Linux, Mac, and Windows. Unfortunately, Haskell doesn’t yet have a proper Qt binding, and neither GTK+ or wxWidgets supports the Application Indicator interface, which is required to create tray icons on Ubuntu’s Unity and KDE’s soon-to-be-released Plasma 5.
Not wanting to create a separate project for the GUI logic, I decided to resuscitate the abandoned happindicator library as happindicator3. I’ll be maintaining for as long as it’s needed.
As for this blog, I’ll be updating it more frequently and with more detailed posts as my primary project, VaultSync, gets closer to fruition.
